Education

• 1992-97: University of Torun (Copernicus University), Poland, masters degree in theoretical mathematics with teaching qualifications. Diploma officially approved as equivalent (or more) to a Belgian "Licentiaat Wiskunde" with "Pedagogische kwalificatie", and thus automatically approved in all European Community countries. Thesis: "Continuation method for contractions and applications in differential calculus". Graduated with top honors.
• 2003-2009 (of which almost 19 months, 7/6/2005 - 1/1/2007, on maternity leave): Ph.D. from Uppsala University, Sweden. Thesis: "Digital lines, Sturmian words, and continued fractions" defended on 25 September 2009.

Languages

• Fluent in Polish, Swedish, Dutch, English and Russian (well, in the latest one I am not so fluent any more...). Planning to learn French (or Italian). But first I will learn Objective-C and related topics.

Research

• I did my Ph.D. studies in Uppsala, in the Department of Mathematics of Uppsala University. Together with my advisor Professor Christer Kiselman and my colleague Shiva Samieinia we formed a research group in Digital Geometry. I defended my thesis on 25 September 2009.
• My research during my Ph.D. studies was focused on arithmetic properties of digital lines in two dimensions. I was mainly interested in the lines with irrational slopes, which leads to research on Sturmian words. I formulated a new description of upper mechanical words with irrational slopes. The description was based on continued fractions. I also formulated a new fixed-point theorem for Sturmian words, which I presented on the conference Words 2009. During my Ph.D. studies I felt inspired by the work of Valérie Berthé, Damien Jamet and Thomas Fernique. • After my Ph.D. studies I began to study some domains of theoretical computer science. I cooperated with the group Formal Languages and Concurrency at the Copernicus University in Torun (Poland). I worked together with them on the project Mathematical methods in modeling and analysis of concurrent systems. My advisor in Sweden was Professor Parosh Aziz Abdulla from the Department of Information Technology of Uppsala University. I got two scholarships for this project: one of them (the Lennander Scholarship) form Uppsala University, the second one (Magnuson scholarship) from The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
• In August 2010 I joined MITM AB, where I am a co-owner. We are working on a new medical record iotaMed.

Teaching material written 2000-2008

• Autumn 2000, Complexe getallen (Complex numbers, in Dutch), an interactive Mathematica notebook designed, programmed and written by me during my work for the Exploot project (led by Professor Ivan Cnop) at the Flemish University of Brussels, Belgium. The notebook has been used as teaching material for Dutch speaking students. It can be found on the home page of Exploot (you have to click on "Fourier en complexe analyse" left on the page, then click on "complexe getallen" left on the next page).
