The evening party definitely looked like the most fun part of the day. And certainly the most fattening. Judging by the photos, there was a clear escallation of carbohydrate content from morning 'til evening. Sorry I missed it!

(I waited at the train station in Ottumwa, Iowa for the express to Upsala, but it didn't come until far into the night, and by then I had gone bat-watching on the banks of the Mississippi.)

So now we have the Doctors Wehlou, so to speak. All my best!

Hania speaking: A PhD at last! No, it didn't take that long, but sometimes it felt like it did. Last friday, September 25, 2009, I presented my thesis and defended it with no problems, so I was awarded my PhD. Then we had a party. You can find a link to my thesis, a video of the presentation, and the slides, and some photos from the presentation and the party, if you follow this link.

Hania speaking: my paper "Continued Fractions and Digital Lines with Irrational Slopes" is accepted for publication in the Proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Discrete Geometry for Computer Imagery (DGCI 0, in Lecture Notes in Computer Science. The conference will take place in Lyon, France 16-18 April 2008. I will also present a poster there.

I have also some observation on Shared Memory.
My app is Windows Service and can by run with rights of "Local System Account" or chosen user. Performance Monitor on WinXP can see or cannot see my performance counter and it depends on user which is logged in Performance Monitor and view of PM (most common chart, counter logs, alerts). This looks different on Win2000: I cannot find user login dialog in Performance Monitor

For my app I have added option to exchange information with Performance Monitor, but I have also added textual information that can be used by Web based monitoring tools like MRTG and Cacti.

MRTG works fine on my Windows machine, while Kylix port of my app cooperate with Cacti. They produce nice charts for last day, week, month and year. They are very useful for admins, and I think it is simplier than Windows Performance Monitor.

Other problems:
1. It doesn't work on Win9x
Solution: use some {$IFDEF } or change

uses 2nd parameter as file name. In this case it is 'c:\Program'.
I have changed FileNameInModPath() to use ExtractShortPathName():

Thanks for very good article. I have added monitoring to my Delphi 4 multithread server. There were some problems: D4 is little bit old, but one thing is very strange. In PerfCounters.pas there is TPerfCounter class with abstract method:

This method is overriden in TRawCounter and TDeltaCounter classes, but in both cases it tries to call base class SetValue() (inherited keyword) which is abstract:

end;

D4 generates exception in such case. I have removed inherited keyword and now it works OK.

So, I've got a blog now, too. See urSecta.com. In particular, I think I've found the solution to DRM. It's not very respectful of human dignity and human rights, but both these values are going out of fashion big time, anyway. But it ought to be efficient.

Dear Friends :

4 or 5 months ago you helped me to set up my forum FASHYON.com

A Great Help was Kim and he sent me files of his authorship to help me set up colors, separators bars, etc ...

Very kind and noble of Kim.

I did not set up FASHYON.com exactly as the WEHLOU and according to Kim's instruction because I needed some other colors or other stuff.

But I am pointing to www.nevelsteen.com in evey page of FASHYON

But now there is a big problem, I had no signature for user Vicente and when I set up the signature then this text does not show up in the old posts.

Is there any way to fix this problem ???. I need the last version of the signature to appear in every post. This is because of commercial or money needs ( tight need of pennies ).

Since I am going to setup more Forums soon ( with links to Kim's site of course ) then I need desperately to solve this problem.

If you are too busy then please inform me of the best sites or Forums to solve these little but nagging problems.

My next forum will be

ENVYRONMENT.com

and I am located in Colombia, South America, High in the Andes and in the sources or fountains for the Amazon River ( first affluents ). This is the Super Biodiverse land of Gawdy Worms, Colorful Butterflies and Flamboyant Insects, thousands of different species per square mile.

So if you feel any pity for the Amazonian or Andean Animals or Plants, then please give me a little help.

I tested the Wehlou Forum Website by entering a "Testing my signature" text in my profile signature but I seem to note that there is the same defect and my new test profile does not appear.

How can we fix this problem ???

What anonymity levels of HTTP proxy servers exist?
1. Transparent - these proxies are not anonymous. They don't hide IP-address of a client and let a web server know that you are surfing through a proxy server. The task of such proxies, as a rule, is information caching and/or support of Internet access for several computers via single connection. Such proxies are not applicable for security and privacy while surfing on net. You can use them only for network speed improvement.
2. Anonymous - these proxies don't show your real IP but change the request fields so it is very easy to detect that you are using proxy.
3. High Anonymous - these proxy servers do not pass an IP-address of a client and don't send any variables indicating that you are using proxy server to host and look like real browser.
